Teaching and Integrating Technology
Welcome to my little slice of the Internet. My name is Mikey McKillip or as some of my past students once called me Ato Mikey. 'Ato' mean mister or a title of respect given to a male in Tigrinya, the national language of Eritrea, East Africa. My students called me by my first name because one's first name is that person's name. One's second name is that person's father's name. I was given the name 'atomikey' by my students at the Hadas Elementary School in Eritrea, while teaching for the US Peace Corps in 1997. Read more about my experience as a Peace Corps teacher from an article I wrote for TESOL Magazine and Peace Corps Online.
Currently I am employed at an international school in Shanghai, China. I am the Technology Integration Coordinator for the lower school at Shanghai Community International School, Pudong campus. Check out the amazing projects my students have produced this year. I hope to use this site to develop strategies for myself and other teachers to integrate technology in a meaningful way to engage student learning.
